Growing a garden in the Senora desert

Image
It is difficult to grow  a garden or anything in this vast dry desert but Pete and Charles and  wife Jean managed to plant one and are now growing a small organic garden...determined I would say but now to keep the wild burro's,pigs, rabbits and chipmunks out will be another story .

Charles Wrote This after Visiting Us

Visiting with Pete Casanova in Coyote East. Pete describes himself as poor as a churchmouse - living on just his and Kristine's social security checks. Poor, but smart, resourceful, and one of the more cheerful, open people I've had the pleasure of knowing. In the foreground is the solar system he's hand built with cast off parts for pennies on the dollar. By the time he's done, I'm sure it will all be attractively laid out as well. Pete came over to our uppity Coyote West for a few months as manager, but found the pay and amenities not worth the hassle, or the suburban ambience. I agree. East is full of interesting characters like Pete. And has black velvet star spangled nights, serenaded by wild burros and howling coyotes.

Well the deed is done and we backed the new managers into the right spot and Trinidad and Kita and dog Jamie will start being the great managers that I know they will be.

HAPPY HOUR GONE AMUCK

Image
Well Pete and I are learning to be managers but it is not easy. Usually HAPPY HOUR goes from 4 to 6 (which we do not attend as we do not drink)..but lately the drunk crowd has been pushing it past the 6 o'clock hour. Then last night happened....very drunk people kept o and on with loud laughing and shouting and lewd remarks. We let them go but at nine o'clock...which is the quiet hour Pete went out and asked them to disperse because people were going to bed and trying to  sleep. They ignored him and made unkind remarks when he walked away ...and the noise got even more intense so at 9:40 Pete went back out and very nicely told them they had to disperse . They started bad mouthing him once again as he walked away. this time saying they were going to beat him and he had no right to tell them what to do. They did however leave going to one of the trailers for more drinking and as they passed right next to our place they again said they were going to beat Pete up and flashed ...

Pete and Kristina's Day Out

Image
Got out into-the desert for awhile today although warmer then what I thought it would be but still nice to get out where we could be alone for awhile....driving over rutty dirt roads and taking pix along the way. The land is so strange down here but I am getting used to it. We did not make it the park but traveled a short way into BLM land which is just as beautiful. We also discovered another area where many trailers were parked ..of course on BLM land and took a pic of one that was made from a truck. Was really cool. Any who it gave me a little time to breath again and Pete and I had a nice time and had a picnic lunch which included the last two pieces of my coconut cake. Hope to get out a little more and leave the cell phone at home.

We really love it here in Why And especially this great park, a nice small, 37 spaces, with a pretty space we can do some “landscaping” on, as well as a community vegetable garden several of us are working on. We have started a recycling effort which really makes me happy too. Our manager, Pete, is an exceptionally good addition to a really nice spot, he is cheerful, hard working, and really cares about the place and it’s residents. Our cat, Dolly, is the reason we came over here, we were at the East park with no hookups and larger more open and “wild” spots, but it was too wild for us to feel safe about letting our cat roam about a bit, the coyotes were a little too at home there!! Here is a bit more civilized, which is a plus and a minus of course, but we have decided this is the spot we will call home. We actually traded the truck that we hauled our fifth wheel with for a smaller truck we can explore in, and bought a smaller trailer to go traveling in.All the folk...
